The Hollywood Reporter suggests Americans should keep an eye on the Disney XD channel for lesser-known Marvel characters: they're tomorrow's film stars.

Disney recently bought out Marvel for $4 million, and has access to their extensive library of characters. At the UBS Global Media & Communications Conference, Disney president and CEO Bob Iger told audiences that their new action-oriented channel and Web content would be used to test characters' appeal.

At the talk, Iger also commented that Disney is happy to let Sony keep producing Spider-Man and Iron Man movies, as the House of Mouse will handle the licensing.

:? i get the spider-man part but iron man is a marvel studios production, hence now owned by disney. perhaps they mean theyll still allow paramount to distribute? altho i doubt it. its likely disney'll be after the distribution rights by the time iron man 3 rolls into production. i guess they just mean disney aren't interested in getting the rights back from sony for the spider-man movies right now and the iron man part is just an error.

All licences handed out by Marvel are in place until expiry; once these contracts have finished Disney will take up the mantel of making Marvel movies/Cartoons.
Therefore Spiderman 4 etc, all/any Avenger related films such as Ironman 3 (yes 3), Thor, Captain America will still be made by outside studios.

As long as DXD brings back Spectacular Spidey, I'm ok with their decisions

I just googled it...They're making "The Avengers"...Since the movie is coming out, most likely, they're getting ready for it. Check it out...

Quote:
Back in 2008, Marvel Animation announced it was teaming up with Film Roman for "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes", an animated series featuring the classic "Avengers" lineup in anticipation of the upcoming live action film.

Given Disney's acquisition of Marvel, it should come as no surprise that the series will be coming to Disney XD.

According to Hollywood Reporter, "The Avengers" will debut this Fall on Disney XD to prime younger audiences for 2012's live-action "Avengers." Disney Channels' Entertainment President, Gary Marsh, said the network has been "pouring through the library of 7,000 Marvel characters looking for the next 'Spider-Man.'"

Last summer, "Spectacular Spider-Man" producer Greg Weisman revealed that Sony relinquished the "Spider-Man" TV rights back to Marvel in return for "some concessions vis-a-vis the live action 'Spider-Man' features." Potentially, that could mean that "Spider-Man" would also be free to appear in the "Avengers" animated series at some point.

A previously planned "Hulk" animated series was reportedly shelved to allow Marvel to focus on the "Avengers" animated series; which may incorporate stories and characters from that series as well.

"The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" is currently slated for 26 half-hour episodes

Listen, not a year goes by, not a year, that I don't hear about some escalator accident involving some bastard kid which could have easily been avoided had some parent - I don't care which one - but some parent conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator.

I'm not really checking all that good but I dont see Disney XD talking about Thor :?
But that link you posted looked alright...even though I hate when they do TV series after movies like they did with Blade. (Which I never watched). At least it's after the movie comes out. I guess it's for those that cant read, for toddlers & a little bit older than that...

I like to see the punisher on the Disney channel. But unless its Donald Duck, I really hate Disney.
