:O :O zman are u a harry potter or LOTR fan.Anyhoo it's really tough, but i think in a magical battle dumbledore would kick gandalf's you know wat,but if we could just take magic out, gandalf would win hand's down.Still it's tough.

Why would you take magic out of the equation? That would make it a dull battle. GANDALF FTW!

I say Dumbledore because he does a lot of different magic in the Harry Potter books, and Gandolf doesn't use a lot of magic in the LOTR books, so Dumbledore probably knows more magic, so he has the advantage.

kit i wuld have to say im more LOTR fan, tbh i think Gandalf cos he uses different type of magic compared to Dumbledore, notice in LOTR Gandalf always manages to make eagles show up, so they wuld jus start pecking at Dumbledore

hmm,i havn't read LOTR,but hav seen the movies many times,so i only know the gandalf which was shown in the movies & in the movies he doesn't use much magic,so i would be going wid dumbeldore just because he knows a lot of magic.you know this topic is just like one of those question's which we don't hav any answer to.

Interesting to pit these two against each other, they're very different types of magic users. I'd have to give it to Gandalf though. You may not see a lot of fancy spells from him, but his magic is more about power exerted through will and command. Consider also that he's not human, hundreds or thousands of years old and was returned to life even more powerful than before after dying to continue his work. Plus he doesn't need a wand to cast spells and could simply destroy Dumbledore's wand with a command like he did Suraman's staff. I don't know how someone from the Harry Potter universe could compete with that.

Gandalf. Take away Dumbledore's wand, and he can't do too much.

I am a LOTR fan but I am gonna side with Dumbledore.

I agree that the magic of the two is completely different, but if you were to put Dumbledore in at the council of Elrond he would have taken the ring, disapparated to the volcano and thrown it in.

Not much of a book, but nevertheless, job done.

I have to disagree with you Darth, I know it's all speculation, but doesn't a Harry Potter wizard need something pre-setup on the other end in order to travel instantly like that? I doubt Sauron would have let something get set up, or he may even be able to suppress magic like that from operating in his realm. Additionally, the real question here is in a fight who would win, not who could better destroy the ring.

Another issue would be that there's a reason Gandalf didn't take the ring himself, the same reason why Dumbledore taking possession of it might be disastrous as well.

I've read/seen all the relevant books/movies and would have to side with Dumbledore. I don't know, he just seems more powerful and intelligent to me.
Epic battle for sure though.

If there was no magic involved I would say Gandalf and his big staff with the ball on the end of it could do some damage. On the magic side of things I think Albus would kick butt with his sneakiness....
