This was just released (I never thought he was that big!!).
Quote:
LOS ANGELES – Kevin Smith says he's "way fat," but that shouldn't stop him from flying.

The director and actor says a pilot ejected him from a Southwest Airlines flight from Oakland to Burbank, Calif., saying he didn't fit properly in a single seat.

Smith raised a stink about the incident on his Twitter page Sunday, saying "I'm way fat, but I'm not there just yet," and "If you look like me, you may be ejected from Southwest Air."

He posted a picture of himself sitting on the plane with his cheeks puffed out.

Southwest says it "Customer of Size" policy require travelers must be able to fit safely and comfortably in one seat or make other arrangements.

After a storm of angry online comments from Smith and his fans, the airline issued an apology first from its own Twitter account and later in a statement on its Web site titled "Not So Silent Bob," a jovial jab at the Silent Bob character Smith plays in many of his films.

"We would like to echo our tweets and again offer our heartfelt apologies to you," the statement said.

The airline said it also accommodated Smith on a later flight, gave him a $100 voucher and apologized by phone.

Both Smith and the airline acknowledged that he had bought two seats for his original flight from Oakland, where he had spoken at the Macworld Expo conference.

But he was flying standby in order to catch an earlier flight, and only one was available.
Smith insisted that he was still able to put both armrests down and buckle his seat belt, which is Southwest's standard.

Smith is the director of the new Bruce Willis movie "Cop Out," and previously directed the films "Clerks" and "Chasing Amy."

Read about this on a couple of other sites. I'm sure he thinks he's doing a "standing up for the (not so) little guy" bit but some of his Tweets & comments make him come across as a "don't you know who I am" prima dona type.

I've had to sit beside some rather large individuals on some flights before, wish they'd been told to get off the plane.

i'm not quite sure how I feel about this though. While it was annoying to sit beside said overweight individuals, I never once thought that they should be removed from the plane. On the other hand, I wouldn't have minded if that was what happened.

And how fat is he now anyway? If he's just Silent Bob fat, that's not incredibly large.

He's not HUGE but he's still a big unit:

And it's from a while back but this is a quote about his weight:

Quote:
"I'm really, really fat right now. Fattest I've ever been. I broke a toilet. That's how heavy I am. I can't take all the credit — that was an old toilet and a very waterlogged wall — but my size took that toilet down."

Lol @ that description.

The fact is, if he can fit in the seat with both armrests down and the seat belt around him then he should be allowed to fly. Simple as.

Smith is being an ass about the whole thing.

But the penny-pinching of the airline industry has to stop. The service for the money is just not there any longer. And with the ridiculous enhanced security flying is now an utter joke. I fly infrequently, but I hate how the contracted for carry-on specs don't apply to regional flyers. If you check it in, be prepared to lose that personal property. Been there, done that.

I haven't done a survey of it, but my guess is that it's easier to earn good money and benefits as a municiple bus driver than it is to pilot a plane. Maybe we need better pay, working conditions and benefits for pilots? For a million reasons that actually matter, that makes no sense.

I'll preface this by saying that I'm a big Kevin Smith fan and supporter. Having listened to him tell his story in his podcast (smodcast.com) it seems like the individuals at Southwest really were out to screw him for whatever reason. He was able to pull the armrests down and buckle himself in, the people in the seats next to him said they didn't care, and they lied to him saying it was the pilot who requested he get off the plane. I almost never fly but I've been in those same Southwest commuter type planes, the seats are small and everyone is packed in like sardines. If he can get his armrests down and buckle himself in then it should've been fine for the hour flight from Oakland to Burbank.

Sounds like Peter Guber was trying to get even with Kevin Smith for calling him an idiot. But really the guy only is little on the heavy side. But its not like hes Jabba the Hutt.
