Possibly not, you'd be suprised by the amount of gems hidden away that we only find out about because of a reccomendation for a friend - much like comic books

Well how can a person ask you to review a certain movie if they don't know of the movie?

Because dear Shieldy they think, hmm I've always wondered whether The Burning is worth seeing perhaps old Bob has some thoughts on it, consequently they may think "I'd sure like to see that My Name is Bruce, but should really walk the 15 miles to the video store?" You know like when someone says, "Is Booster Gold worth reading?"

I replied in one the other forums, but I like the sound of my own voice so.....

The first two definately, then after that you can watch them in any order really. These are slasher films not Citizen Kane!

If you have Blu-Ray pick up those versions, I think that the picture quality may put you off, as it has others.

If you are looking for a good classic slasher movie you should also try The Burning, in my opinion it's superior to Friday pt 1, but never attained the same world wide recognition.

And for good reason that they are the most widely know, there is however, a multitude of undiscovered gems out there, that if you have Netflix in the U.S or LoveFilm in the UK you should check out - if horror movies are your thing.

Those three franchises are pretty tame compared to other stuff out there. If it's gore you want in your slasher flicks then you should be checking out some of the giallo movies by Dario Argento, Mario Bava or Lucio Fulci.

You are indeed correct Shieldy, and does mean both, it was just your turn of phrase suggested, to me, that you wanted guidance in which one to watch.
To reiterate, watch at least the first two of each series and that should set you up!

Some time ago I said I would run some review on horror movies, so here is my first one.

The Children.

Spoiler: show
Image

Children, don't you just hate the little bastards, if they're not trying to bankrupt you, then their trying to load a toast into the 360, it's all take, take, take with them and here they are again taking, the lives of adults that is!

Released last year, but flying quite low under the radar this effecive British horror begins with two families meeting in a secluded rural house for some time away from it all.

Robbie & Chloe are the new age types who believe in home schooling and rewarding their 2 little darlings with stars when ever they manage not to smear Marmite over the 42" plasma, oh and they have a shit load of money after selling their company.
Jonah & Elaine on the other had have a crappy old car, an autistic son (though it's never made clear), a stroppy teenage daughter called Casey and pouting poppet called Leah.

While Chloe and Elaine seem to be happy to just spend time together Jonah is trying to get Robbie to invest some money in his latest get rich scheme, but he's to busy perving over Casey, not that she seems to mind.

Spoiler: show
Tidy your bloody room!
Image

The first third of the movie starts quite slowly as we get to know the adults and Casey, and I'll admit that I picked up a copy of Pocket Spiderman "Night of the Prowler" (only cost me 50p too!) and was starting to think about putting something else into the dvd, but then, like an unexpected flick in the balls, it moves up a gear and anybody over the age of ten should be heading for the hills.

The pacing of the next two thirds keeps you glued as you wonder who's next and how they'll meet their demise. The kids are pretty creepy to start with and only get creepier throughout the film as they turn on the adults.

If you've seen Bloody Birthday, then you will notice similarities between the two films, but this shouldn't detract from what is a bloody good scary movie, with enough jumps to keep that special person holding your hand, and at least one scene that'll have you flinching away from the screen.

Should also mention the good use of sound, too often in horror movies events are signposted by a change in music and kinda gives the game away, The Children steers away from this and to good effect as well.

Rent, buy or avoid? Rent it

Spoiler: show
