I started off by reading the one-shot that the manga was developed from. There is quite a difference in set-up, which disappointed me at first. But I kept reading due to the spectacular art and found myself pleasantly surprised. Many of the characters that make for the emotional roller-coaster and help as supporting characters build up the main character were absent in the one-shot, and make it clear that the author was right in deviating from the original outline.
The story starts off with what i can only assume is a flashforward spoiler of events far into the future, giving us something to think about as we follow the story. *spoiler on* The flashback features the two main characters in a face-off duel *spoiler off*. This works as a brilliant backdrop to their interactions, giving that little bit of tension to every scene they're in as the reader wonders if this is the moment that puts them on the different paths that result in the flashforward we saw.
Then again that flashforward was likely taken out of context on purpose, for storytelling purposes that will be made clear later on.
I might also add that the frequency of manga's release is a little disappointing; yes the pages are beautiful and the story is unfolding brilliantly, but we're waiting two months for each chapter. And these are weekly-sized issues (15-20 pages), not the longer sized ones (30-40 pages) that one might expect from a bi-monthly or even monthly release.

its very good series. but i recommending it if you like manga's like berserk...which is in the same classification ( Seinen ) since this manga is very graphic. This also reminds me a bit of Devil Man ( if you've seen devil man then you are really are old...just an opinion).
