I am pretty much into everything Star Wars and never got the chance to read the comic books of Star Wars. Can anyone suggest where to begin reading with Stars Wars comic books for someone who is new to the comic books?

I like Legacy. It's set after ROTJ, like a hundred years later or something like that. So it's not your typical Luke Skywalker stories or anything like that. But it's a cool new fresh start for a different Star Wars title. Now they're up into like 40 issues or something though.

If you're looking for something which has Luke in it, maybe check out Invasion. It just got going not too long ago. So not many issues to play catch up there.

What are all your thoughts on Star Wars comics in general? Like the extended universe to me is very good some would say its better then the movies. But then again how can it not be we see characters and stories we didn't in the 6 movies. But thats cause basically all 6 Star Wars movies were about Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader.

Try checking out "Vector". It crosses 4 different titles but it gives you a taste of each so you can see what you like.

I love Star Wars too and never had the chance to read any of the comics so I justpicked up the first issue of Legacy and boy was it a blast, I read through issue 49 and can't wait for the last one to come out. The art is very cinematic and the stories are engaging

I urge you to give it a try!

Online
along with Invasion and Legacy also check:

Knights of the Old Republic is a very good comic, however the only characters from the game that appeared in the comic were Revan,Malak,Mission and the Hidden Beks.

for the Original Trilogy stories check out Empire, and it's sequel Rebellion, set between IV and V with some pre-IV stories.

for the Prequel Trilogy check out Republic, and it's sequel Dark Times which deals with the Galaxy post-III.

I heard X-wing: Rogue Squadron is also pretty good, set post-VI and mostly deals with the rebel pilots.

for other randomness check out Tales.

The comics are done obviously by Dark Horse and the novels by a company called Del Ray. They do have to get authorization from LucasArts before tinkering with anything "cannon". So, they do often mention small events from the other just to give them creditability but rarely will you see a full crossover from comics to novels or vice versa unless you are talking about a major character (Luke, Vader, Leia, etc.) They do this so they are not stumbling over each other so to speak when writing out stories and accidentally messing up areas the other company was planning to use.

for post-Jedi, may want to check the comic adaptations of the Heir to the Empire trilogy. Great books and I hear the comic adaptations were pretty good, too.

Legacy is awesome. I kinda fell out of reading it for a while but am catching up.

Well you should start if you want with the true beginning.
Tales of the Jedi The golden age of the sith
Tales of the Jedi Fall of the sith
Tales of the Jedi (also called Knights of the old republic 5 issue mini)
Tales of the Jedi Free donn nadd uprising
Tales of the Jedi dark lords of the sith
Tales of the Jedi Sith War
Tales of the Jedi Redemption
Jedi vs Sith
And then knights of the old republic for the old republic era

and for the other eras I will have to make a full list if you want that

I think Dark Times has been especially good, even if it does only come out twice a year or whatever it is... ;) For post-ROTJ stuff that ties in with the continuity of the novels, Invasion is definitely the place you want to be. But if you can find it, I recommend the classic Marvel Star Wars series, especially the Jo Duffy stories that start just after ESB with #71. These were written long before the novel series and are a little dated now maybe, but they go off in their own direction after ROTJ and I still think they're a lot of fun.

You can see the series covers and issue credits at the Grand Comic Book Database here: http://www.comics.org/series/2406/

I really liked the Legacy series, and am upset that it has been cancelled. The clone wars graphic novels that collect the republic comic books are also really good. Basically I am a fan of Jan Durseema and John Ostrander.
