I've realised that I'm probably reading more Marvel titles but I'm enjoying the DC titles more. Maybe I should pick up some more DC stuff and drop some Marvel.

I think it's Spaced's influence...

Damnit Funk, if you drop a Marvel book, another should take it's place! There are a lot of good books that I see you aren't reading that deserve a chance!

No. You're reading Mighty Avengers which blows. Realm of Kings is not really my thing, that whole area of the MU has never interested me. And the X titles are all let downs imo.

So...

DC it is. ^_^

I didn't mean this week... <_<

I read a lot of Marvel (some admittedly not so great) for a combination of reasons.. familiarity with the characters, curiosity/a sense of obligation (I have to know what's going on!), the fact that I've got time to waste, and the fact that they're all here (and free), but don't let that detract from the fact that some of them are genuinely good reads!

Agents of Atlas, Hercules, Thor, and Iron Man are some of the books that I would recommend to you. FF has recently switched hands, and I think it may be worth a look, though it could be too soon to say. And haven't you been hunting down Annihilation? Cosmic Marvel is awesome! (Just ask Spaced ;))

I'm not really a cosmic Marvel fan, I think DC do space stuff a lot better (GL, Rebels, LOSH, etc). I am gonna be going through Annihilation soon though so my opinion could change on that.

A sense of obligation is what makes me read a lot of stuff and I now think that is a terrible way of going about things, you end up reading some crap and also spending too much money (I rarely download stuff, I'm too much of a collecter).

Hercules annoys me, and Agents of Atlas has no instant appeal so I never picked it up (it has to be something really special if I'm going to get into a new character). I might try Thor, and pick Iron Man up again, after Seige has gone down though.

Wait and see... hopefully you'll like the cosmic stuff. I always look forward to Nova and GotG, and can't wait for Realm of Kings to get into high gear!

Herc and AoA might be my favorites of the ones I recommended (all of which I strongly stand behind), and sadly probably the most overlooked.

Herc is great; he's arrogant, selfish, a drunk, and a womanizer! The book is full of humor and adventure and doesn't (always) leave out good character development/interaction.

And AoA is also a really fun book! It has a really cool line-up of misfit characters with great interaction between them; a secret agent (Jimmy Woo), a gorilla man (Ken Hale aka Gorilla-Man :P), a robot (M-11), an Atlantean (Namora), a Goddess (Venus), an alien (Bob the Uranian aka Marvel Boy), the son of the Mandarin (Temugin), and a talking Dragon (Mr. Lao). It also has a lot of interesting back story for the team, its members, and the Atlas Foundation which they run. The book's current direction and involvement in the current state of the Marvel U is pretty clever and different from most books, just like pretty much everything else about the series. Every issue is full of action and sometimes humor. Oh, and good art.

One thing about Thor and IM... I understand why you'd want to wait until after Siege to read them, but keep in mind that Siege looks like it's meant as the pay off for them.

I might pick up Thor and/or IM when the Seige tie-ins start.

Marvel have too many groups of 'misfits'. Young Avengers, Runaways, Thunderbolts, X-Force, X-Factor, X-Whatever-else, S.W.O.R.D. and, too an extent, all the main Avengers titles. I just think AoA ends up as bottom of the pile...

Just had a thought, they should have a group of English mutants living in the US. They could be called X-Patriots! :)

Yep, it's been cancelled and moved to a back-up strip in Incredible Hercules. Can't get more different than that :)

 I hate Marvel's back-up stories, it's like they just don't care about them and put in no effort. DC have done better with Manhunter.

I really like both Agents of Atlas and Hercules. Why do they need to cancel AoA? Oh well, at least they'll still be around. I hope they put effort into the stories.

When it comes to DC back-ip stories, the only one I regularly read is the Metal Men one in Doom Patrol. I actually like the Metal Men backup a lot more than the actual Doom Patrol comic.

Same old story - falling sales:

Agents of Atlas #1 - 30,256 copies
Agents of Atlas #2 - 26,779 copies

Yep, it's been cancelled and moved to a back-up strip in Incredible Hercules. Can't get more different than that :)

Why must you hurt me?

@Batman: I think AoA was paired well with Herc; hopefully fans of one become fans of both and sales increase. I think Jeff Parker will continue writing AoA, so I don't see the quality dropping at all.

@Funk: What back-ups are you talking about? I didn't know Marvel had any...

@BR: As much as I would love to blame you, you jumped onto an already sinking ship.

[edit] This is from a Newsarama interview with Parker done in late September:
Quote:
The “Agents of Atlas” back-up stories in “Incredible Hercules” are scheduled to run till 2010. Fans don't need to worry, though - Parker still has plenty of “Agents of Atlas” stories to tell. “We have a whole game plan of Atlas appearances - yes they'll be in Hercules because the plot with Venus dovetails into the mythology nicely. But we're also coming out with a group of specials featuring the individual Agents. And after those conclude, the Agents will be involved in a major 2010 event.”
