Why is college football such a big thing in the US? In the UK I don't think we're into anything like that in the same way.

It's because of the whole way the draft system works. College players get picked to go directly to NFL teams every year so today's stars of college football are next year's NFL stars.

Over here in proper football land, you get all the big teams paying fortunes to sign up 12 year-olds to put into their academies, then usually dump them or sell them to lower level teams.

For me...it's a different level of football entirely than the NFL here. I like the NFL, but not near as much. These kids are playing for their teams/national titles. yeah, you've got the group who wants to go to the NFL and that's what they are playing for, but most of these kids won't go pro, so they are playing for the love of the game
