Ok, first off, I don't own any of these stuff so download and use at your own risk (although I have successfully installed and used most of them...and my Windows Vista hasn't gone down yet...)

Code:

Here's the list of the files included and their corresponding descriptions:
Quote:
ComicRack is the best eComic reader and manager for Windows computers with many features not available in other eComic software.

It is an all-in-one solution to read and manage your eComic library. You can think of it as ITunes for eComics with much of the same functionality.

ComicRack is actively maintained software with a strong user base, and best of all, its FREE.

Comicsort(TM) sorts the files in a directory you select to different
subdirectories based on their filenames. Corresponding checksum files
(md5, sfv, csv) files will be added to the correct directories too.
This saves you a lot of time cleaning out this unorganised mess.

Just select a directory and press the button and comicsort will move all
files in that directory to appropriate subdirs (creating them as
needed). If a file already exists in that subdir, the file is not moved.
File attributes are not changed when moving the files.

Quote
Features
--------
- Sort files in a directory to subdirectories based on CRC files and filenames.
- Check files for corruption based on CRC files.
- Check all CRC files in a folder and all it's subfolders.
- Generate reports about missing and corrupt files.

* Search duplicate Outlook emails (new 2007, v4.1)
* Search files with same contents, same name.
* Powerful fuzzy match to uncover similar files (new 2007, v4.1)
* Smart marker of duplicate files by date, version, size, folder and file name pattern
* Replace by NTFS hard link / shortcut (new v4.0)
* Preview files, show file versions and properties
* Save search session / Export result to CSV, XLS, XML format
* Search local hard drives and over network - edition comparison

Benefits:
* Clean up hard disks, identify and recover wasted disk space
* Reduce backup time and media used for backups,
* Reduce file searching time, minimize time used to unneeded virus scanning
* Obtain more free space on "limited" resources, like notebooks
* Remove duplicate files to eliminate synchronization problem
* Organize files neat and manage files better

Tried all of these, most were redundant for me as I categorize my comics as soon as I download them and usually I keep my registry very tidy so noclone wasn't any good, however I think Comic Rack is brilliant, I really like the way it looks so neat and professional and the way it fades from page to page is very smart looking, the downside to CR though is, it tends to be a resource hog and that's not cool, it was the one thing that put me off using it, sadly I will be sticking with CDisplay for the foreseeable future. Thanks though, I'll definitely want CR when I upgrade to better PC.

You're welcome and thanks TCEK for your insightful comments. Basically I just wanted peeps to be familiar with what other comics-related tools are out there....Speaking of which, to be fair to our non-Windows PC members, here's a compiled tools for your MAC:

Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/201689509/ESSENTIAL_COMICS_TOOL_for_MACS.rar

The set includes:
Quote:
FFView is a fast OpenGL-powered picture viewer a la ACDsee (2.x). It is aimed at letting you read manga or other comics onscreen (windowed & fullscreen mode). Features include fast prefetching, smooth panning, voice commands, the ability to browse pictures inside archives (.rar/.cbr, .zip/.cbz) and sticky per-picture options.

FView is a multilingual, fast, OpenGL-powered picture viewer a la ACDsee (2.x). It is aimed at letting you read manga or other comics onscreen (windowed & fullscreen mode). Features include fast prefetching, smooth panning, voice commands, 2-page mode, a magnifying lens, the ability to browse pictures inside archives (.rar/.cbr, .zip/.cbz, .pdf) and sticky per-picture options. It supports EXIF tags and it scriptable. Source available.

FlexRename80 - Mass Renamer
Duff0.069 - Duplicate Finder
SimpleComic1.6.1 - ComicReader
Comical-MACOSX

As usual, I neither guarantee nor support any of these, especially since I do not have a MAC pc... so use at your own risk!

Another great program for Windows is Comic Collector from Collectorz.com. I tried the trial version and liked it so much I bought it the same day.

Has anyone tried this, i like to read while waiting for the bus, in the doctors waiting room, etc, but dont like to take comics with me cos they'd get creased in my handbag.

Im just wondering if its any good, the screen on the DS isnt that big so im trying to figure out how it would work.

Im presuming this goes on to a R4 or something simaler but then how woudl it work once the ds is on?

It is on the R4. There's a couple of ways to view the image on either screen, holding the DS the normal way or on the side and you can zoom in on the text or images. It's not as good as on a PC obviously but it's not bad as a portable reader.

I saw this thread and as a Mac user had to show you guys this:
http://www.bitcartel.com/comicbooklover/

It's Mac os only, but is a great tool.

I also read on my DS and PSP and the PSP screen by far is better, but the DS tools are more functional.

:D

Wow, I just tried that ComicRack and that thing is fantastic! I'm going to have to play with it some more, but I love the cover thumbnails and organizational tools it has.

Thanks,

Dennerman

Windows Vista users, it seems silly but I can't seem to "find" the Advance Search feature on Vista Home ed... you know, like when you need to specify dates and size or exclude file types etc...

So, here's what I use: Super Finder 1.5.3, very useful in finding those long forgotten .cbrs, rars, cbzzs and making them show up in one window...

My only gripe with the proggie is that I can't seem to "select all" files (or CTRL-choose) and drag them for burning all at once...but hey, it's free.

Now, if can only find something that tells me if the cbr files already been read or not...

how about a compiled list of tools for our Linux users ? I'm thinking of getting a small Linux based laptop strictly for use with my comic collection and maybe some films and ebooks. Would be nice to have a Linux based comic reader on hand when I do get it.
