I really wouldn't be surprised if this is very temporary. Like even just a couple panels. How long was Kyle dead again during this event? Not saying that it's not awesome and unexpected but I doubt it'll be anything close to permanent.

Wow! Definitely didn't see that coming! The entire series so far had you believing it was going to be someone good (aka Hal Jordan is what I believed personally). Sinestro definitely puts a giant wrench in things. As far as compared to Magneto as a Villain though, I've gotta be honest, I think Magneto has much more believable and respectable motivation. (Not saying anything bad about Sinestro, mind you, Magneto is just an amazing character imho)

Agreed, Magneto is probably my favorite villain of all time (if not Thanos)... I said things like "kind of similar" and "somewhat admirable" to show that while I can kinda sympathize with Sinestro, it's not nearly as much as I would Magneto. But at the same time, just because he's not on that level, doesn't mean he's not comparable.

i don't even look at sinestro as a villain. he's more of a hard core anti-hero. yes he's very brutal in his ways but the way johns writes him it looks like he's on a mission and he he will not hesitate to do whatever it takes to do it.
abin sur passed two missions the day he died. one to jordan in the form of a ring
and one to sinestro in the form of information of the blackest night.
plus atrocious trying to kill black hand in secret origin makes more sense now.

That description of Sinestro is actually pretty spot on in my book to be honest. To me he fits as a Hal Jordan sort of character that has been doing it far too long and has grown far too tired of bureacracy and red tape. Adopting his more ruthless methods just serves to cut through the red tape to achieve goals otherwise near unobtainable.

Sinestro has always believed in order. He happens to believe, from experience on Korugar, that fear is the ultimate tool in maintaining order. I've always felt he is more at odds with the Guardians than Hal. I think when you examine Hals behavior under the influence of Parallax, one could imagine that Sinestro would attempt the same approach given that power. Tear apart the universe and rebuild it in a state of order.

I was thinking that maybe Kyle or Dove would end up as the White Lantern , but I absolutely love the idea of Sinestro taking it for himself.
I'm hoping that he stays as the White Lantern after BN and into Brightest Day.
I would be interested in seeing him give some lessons in life to some of the resurrected characters like Aquaman.

Which reminds me...has there been a clear reason why Dove is as powerful against the black lanterns as she is? I guess I was expecting a much bigger role for her...and then the ring bearers 'deputized' some other heroes and villains...and Dove wasn't chosen. So....just curious.

from what i've read concerning dove's powers, her powers are like the white light that Nekron is going after, which was given to her by the lord of order. that's why the black lantern rings couldn't bring the original dove back to life.

i've been enjoying the green lantern story lines alot, from when hal jordan comes back as a green lantern to now. they've had a great writing team for this book and i hope they stick w/ it for a while.

Don't worry. Johns said last year he plans to stay on Green Lantern for quite a while still.

Knowing that Johns isn't going anywhere is a huge factor in what keeps me buying/reading Green Lantern. I don't want to have to go through another "Emerald Twilight" sort of possible shake up and the way I see it, if Johns ever did leave Green Lantern, we may see another one.

I hope that when he leaves, the book is left in a good enough shape that the next writer can just pick up where Johns left off and move in a new direction.

Under Johns in recent times we haven't really seen Hal patrolling his sector or being involved in Earth related storylines since before the Sinestro Corps War really, as the build up to Blackest Night needed Hal across the universe.

When Johns leaves, it might be nice to have Green Lantern back to Hal in his sector, whilst Green Lantern Corps and Emerald Warriors can be set across the universe.

Only reason for another 'Emerald Twilight' would be if sales fall steadily.

Fair enough... Having Hal back to patrolling his own sector with stories based around it would be a nice change and I could easily see Johns leaving the story in a place a successor could pick up with little issue. I'm sure a successor will be great, in part because he/she'd have to be in order to fill Johns' shoes... I just know it'll take me a little bit to let go of Johns' lantern when it happens.
